So, Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie certainly have their similarities, up to the point where they were even filmed on the same set, so Stars Hollow and Bluebell are practically the same place. They have similar plot points and episodes sometimes too, similar humour and such, which works for me and is largely why I like both shows so much, but I just rewatched one particular episode of Hart of Dixie and I've realised it isn't just a little similar to a Gilmore Girls episode, it's very, very similar, in a slightly jumbled way...

HoD episode 2x9 is called Sparks Fly and concerns a Basket Auction for charity, extremely similar to the concept of GG ep 2x10 A-Tisket, A-Tasket with the slight difference that HoD has girls bidding on boys and GG has boys bidding on girls. Seriously though, check out all the extremely similar things that happen...

(1)
- In GG, Sookie wants Jackson to win her basket, but Kirk gets in the way, leading to Jackson having to bribe Kirk for the basket and date.
- In HoD, Wade wants Zoe to win his basket, but Magnolia gets in the way, leading to Zoe having to bribe Magnolia for the basket and date.

(2)
- Rory & Jess go on a date in which she tricks him into eating gross food and laughs at his expense.
- Tansy & George go on a date in which she tricks him into eating gross food and laughs at his expense.

(3)
- Jess (deliberately) wins Rory in the auction, and when her boyfriend (Dean) objects, she says she has to go because it's the rules.
- Lemon (accidentally) wins Lavon in the auction, and when his girlfriend (Ruby) objects, he says he has to go because it's the rules.

(4)
- Lorelai & Luke end up on a date (without meaning for it to happen to start off with) and it's equal parts cute and awkward because we all know they should be together but they're not.
- Lemon & Lavon end up on a date (without meaning for it to happen to start off with) and it's equal parts cute and awkward because we all know they should be together but they're not.

On top of all this, in HoD, George makes up some fake lawyer stuff to get Tansy her dog back from her ex's new girlfriend which is so, so like that one scene in the film Legally Blonde where Elle makes up Latin law stuff to get Paulette's dog back from her ex.

So, I guess what I'm wondering is, were the writers just having a blank day and ripped off a bunch of stuff from GG and also Legally Blonde OR is this just the mother all of coincidence clusters??

(It's also possible that when I rewatch my favourite TV shows a lot, I start seeing more detail than is strictly necessary! lol)

Now that the [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles summer round has been revealed, I thought I would take a leaf out of [personal profile] svgurl's book and share my contributions (I also stole her template - hope she doesn't mind! :P)

Fandom: Alice (2009)

So, the [personal profile] fairytaleinspired exchange revealed today and oh... my... goodness! I actually received two gifts and they're both so good!

together we stay
Fandom: X-Men Movieverse
Pairing: Logan/Rogue
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Marie touched her forehead to the peeling wallpaper of the walls in the apparent prison she'd just found herself in, her gloved hands clenching at her the fabric of her jacket that she had tugged over her knees. How had she even ended up here, of all places? She closed her eyes. Oh, right. By picking a rose.

(It's basically a Beauty & the Beast AU and I adore it!!!)

Be Brave
Fandom: MCU
Pairing: Bucky/Nat
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Bucky stuffed his hands in his pockets. He wanted to be the one next to her. He wanted to be the one to hold her hand. He wanted to stroke her hair and feel her skin touching his. He wanted to whisper in her ear that he was sorry — sorry he hadn’t been here, sorry he couldn’t save her, sorry he had been too scared before all of this happened. If he had just been braver, a man who faced death every day it sometimes seemed, but if he had been braver, maybe none of this would have happened.

(This one's a post-Endgame AU with Sleeping Beauty elements and it's sooooo sweet!)

Obviously, I'm not allowed to talk about what I wrote myself yet, because author reveals aren't for a week yet, but I did have a blast writing it, so that was a plus too :)

Additionally, a couple more fics that were not written for me, but that I found in the collection and absolutely loved, so I thought I'd share...

So, I'm on this big fic writing kick, which is great, in a way. I mean, I figured a couple of weeks off work would be great in giving me lots of free time for lots of fun and relaxing things but also for lots of fic writing. The only problem is that most of what I'm writing is not new chapters of my current WIPs. Most of it is the beginnings of new stories which I absolutely do not need to be writing right now because, hello, 4 WIPs and a couple of exchange fics already in the works that I absolutely should be working on!

Ugh, why do I do this? Why do I get from the beginning to the middle of fics and then just sort of wander off and start new stuff instead of finishing existing stuff? I'm bad with middles, I know this. I get all excited in the beginning of stories and towards the end of stories, but holding it together in the middle is so hard - I just get bored! lol

Oh, what is even the matter with me? Is everybody like this? I tend to assume it's just me, but maybe it's not. Anyway, rant over, because I need to go and write something. Preferably not another new thing that's just going to have to go on the 'maybe later' pile, so I can move the WIPs forward from the middle towards the end already.

(In case you were wondering, I have started 3 new fics in the last week or so - one each for Hart of Dixie, MCU, and Gilmore Girls, plus I've been messing with notes I have written down for three original fics and another GG fic! lol)
ultra_fic: (Avengers)
...and WOW! I mean, seriously, wow. I was a little sceptical because as much as I love Bucky (and y'all know I do!) I'm not the biggest fan of Sam... or Sharon Carter... or Zemo. So, yeah, I really wasn't sure whether it was something I was going to enjoy, but actually, I LOVED IT!

Spoilers here )

So, yes, I am very glad I got a chance to see this show. It was awesome :)

I have mixed results when I participate in exchanges. Mostly what I write for others seems to be appreciated, even the treats, and that's great. What's written for me is usually pretty good too. Of course, there are occasions when I spend a long time writing something you think is really cool for someone and they don't even comment, and there are times when I receive something that isn't really what I asked for and it's kind of disappointing. This week, however, has been a triumph twice over! :)

Now, I can't share what I wrote for the [community profile] unsent_letters_exchange or [community profile] maythe4thbewithyou yet, because anon periods, but I can share what I received and oh my goodness is it ever some good stuff!!! :D

For May4th...

Holo from Exegol is an amazing, almost 12,000 word fic, set post-TROS, in which Ben survives and he and Rey need help in escaping from Exegol, so Ben tries to contact Chewie on the Falcon, leading to Finn, Poe, Lando, etc. seeing Rey/Ben via a holo message and realising they're together, plus ForceGhost!Leia and ForceGost!Anakin feature as well, and the whole thing is so epic and awesome! I can hardly believe someone went so all-out on an exchange fic for little ol' me :P

also Give Your Hearts, which is a '5 things' Han/Leia fic about them getting married which was just so cute and fun and extremely in-characters. I loved this one too :)

For Unsent Letters...

In A Minute is an MCU fic, Bucky/Nat, obviously, because what else do I usually request? It must have taken the author such a long time, not just the writing of it (over 6,000 words, y'all!) but all the special formatting so that it genuinely looked like letters, emails, reports, text messages - I'm just so impressed! It's post-Endgame, but it goes back to Bucky & Nat's shared history in the Red Room, as per the comics, and in the 'present day' part, everyone is looking for Bucky, realising he has gone to Vormir to get Nat back. Of course, it has a happy ending ;)

So, yeah, I think I have been extremely lucky with exchange gifts this week. I feel properly spoilt and very happy with all my lovely gifts. Can't wait to find out who wrote them next week so I can squee at those people some more and maybe look into what other things they have written that might interest me :) Next up will be the [community profile] fluffityfluffexchange, which reveals on Sun 15th May, and I've just signed up for [personal profile] fairytaleinspired, so that's something to look forward to next month :)

Hope everyone else is being as lucky with exchanges of late! :)

I never watched any Arrowverse shows. I almost did. I thought Arrow might be interesting, but in the end, I never bothered with it. I forget why exactly. Maybe because, for me, Green Arrow will always be Justin Hartley thanks to my Smallville-loving days. Plus, there were so many shows spinning off and around it, it would've got really expensive and complicated for me to see the all over here in the UK.

However, Superman and Lois suddenly popped up on a free channel over here and I seriously thought about watching, mostly because, at the time, I didn't know it was related to the Arrowverse. Then I found out it was, plus it was already 3 episodes in on TV, and I just figured, what's the point? I'll just be confused!

Well, apparently, that same channel will let you stream the whole first season for free online AND somebody told me you can absolutely watch S&L without having seen any other Arrowverse shows, so I went for it. I'm actually really glad I did :)

To start off with, I wasn't sure I liked this version of Lois. I love the incarnations played by Teri Hatcher and Erica Durance, not to mention Margot Kidder, but this one... meh, I wasn't sure. I did think Tyler Hoechlin who plays Clark/Superman is very good though, and I liked a lot of the other characters and easily got hooked into the storylines, so I kept on watching, and after a while, Lois grew on me too :)

In this world, Lois and Clark are older...

The weirdest part was when the main villain...

major spoilers under this cut )

Overall, I did like the series. After a few episodes, there were a lot of cliffhanger moments that made me want to run straight to the next one, and I thought the season ended well, tying up almost all the loose ends, but leaving a couple of things open, in case they got a Season 2 (which I believe they have) so that was cool.

Anybody else watched this show at all, or thinking about watching it? :)

There's been a lot of writing... and also, signing up for exchanges. I can't seem to stop myself on either count, which I'm actually okay with :)

I have 3 WIPs now, all of which I have started sharing...

Title: Marvel Collegiate University
Fandom: MCU
Pairings: Bucky/Nat; Tony/Pepper; Darcy/Bruce
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: What if all the Avengers were ordinary human beings who just attended college together?

Title: Take Me to the Other Side
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairings: Mac/Dick; Veronica/Logan
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Mac and Dick are about to hit a new phase in their relationship, which is great, except dealing with the future also means dealing with the past, and neither one of them exactly has the simplest or nicest backstory... (Long-time-coming sequel to 'Falling in Love is Hard on the Knees', but you can probably read it just fine without reading/remembering that one)

Title: Lead Me Home
Fandom: Hart of Dixie
Pairing: Zoe/Wade
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: One day, a friendly member of the Bluebell community picked up a visiting New Yorker from the side of the road. You probably think you know who these people are. Y’all are wrong!

I'm signed up for [community profile] unsent_letters_exchange, which I thought about a lot and almost decided against, BUT having taken a look through the requests summary, I think I did the right thing in going for it. I'm actually quite excited about the potential assignments now :)

Also, I signed up for [community profile] maythe4thbewithyou, which I wanted to do last year, but then didn't. This year, I'm giving it a try, even though I haven't written a whole bunch of Star Wars fic before. I just recently revisited the Sequels and Prequels and I know the Originals pretty well, so it should be fine :)

Hope everyone else's writing, both WIPs and challenge/exchange stuff, is going swimmingly! :)

I tried...

Feb. 19th, 2022 04:32 pm
ultra_fic: (Star Wars)
...but I'm still not a big fan of the Star Wars Prequels.

I love the Original Trilogy. Loved it since I first saw it, which was actually pretty late in the day, all things considered. I think I was about 20, which is the better part of 18 years ago now, and in that time I have watched A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi many, many times (the original theatrical versions, because I'm lucky enough to have those DVDs, and I think they're so much better than the updated ones). I even like the Sequels, which I know are not all that popular with some hardcore fans of the Originals, but when it comes to the prequels, I just... don't like them much. I know I watched them once, quite soon after I saw the originals, and maybe once or twice since then, but I realised the other day that I barely even remembered what happens in them, except for the obvious 'big moments' and, unfortunately, that Jar Jar Binks is there :P

The Phantom Menace was actually a little better than I remember. I thought little Anakin was sweet, I liked Liam Neeson's Qui Gon Jinn, and I always knew that Ewan McGregor was amazing as a young Obi-Wan (he does the voice so well!). I don't think I even found Jar Jar as annoying as I did before and, all in all, I was surprised to find I didn't mind it.

Attack of the Clones, also not so bad. Hayden Christenson is fine, the Anakin/Padme romance is fine, there's a bunch of stuff that's just fine about it, to be honest. Again, Ewan McGregor is probably my favourite part of the whole thing, though it's always cool to see Yoda in a lightsaber fight, and Mace Windu being Mace Windu because, you know, Samuel L Jackson. Still, it's just fine to me, nothing more than that.

Then we come to Revenge of the Sith. Well, I knew going in it was going to end badly, obviously, but I couldn't remember much of how it got from Point A to Point B Darth Vader. Oh dear. It goes dark so fast, doesn't it? Anakin just seems to declare, 'This is the wrong thing,' and then does it anyway, over and over, until it's all too late and all hope is lost. I mean, it's well acted and well done as a film, I guess, but so depressing! I just don't think I want to rewatch it again. Maybe in another goodness-knows-how-many years? I did at least like the very last part, seeing Leia and Luke put safely in the arms of the Organas and the Lars.

Well, now I just really want to fanfic the heck out of all this and give everyone a happy ending, which isn't necessarily very Star Wars, but hey, who cares, right? ;)

Finally had time for some baking last week, and so, there were cupcakes. Vanilla cakes with chocolate and buttercream on top.

And yes, they all have slightly different styles of topping - I make them to spec for myself and my family members ;)

So enjoyed the [profile] seasonofdrabbles exchange Winter round! I actually received 5 gifts, Paying Compliments and home where my love lies waiting (both Pride & Prejudice), Recollecting of Bloom and Yarn (both Little Women), and family keepsake (MCU). All fabulous fics :)

I did a lot of treats this go around... which I usually do with drabble exchanges. I wrote several MCU fics: A Weird Kind of Sense (Bucky/Nat), She (Bucky/Nat), Reason to Live (Bucky/Nat), Finding the Way Back Home (Steve/Nat), and A Little Less Conversation (Bucky&/Sam); a couple of Gilmore Girls fics: Got Milk? (Lorelai & Michel & Sookie) and Blue Eyes Walk Into A Bar (Rory/Jess); plus one for The Big Bang Theory: Going Down (Penny).

So excited to see what I get as a gift for the [community profile] chocolateboxcomm on Monday and to see if my giftee likes their gift too...

I've written 33 fics for the Three Sentence Ficathon so far. I don't know that I'll do anymore, but if you want to see all the fics I've done so far, they're over on AO3.

Oh, and I actually posted Chapter 1 of that wacky MCU fic I talked about in a previous post. If anyone is interested, it's a College/University AU with a main focus on Bucky/Nat but also features (will feature) several of the main Avengers and other characters. You can find it at Fanfiction.net or AO3.
ultra_fic: (Default)
It's so much easier to write now that I'm not on a schedule. I mean, I always got done all the stuff I needed to, and all the stuff I thought I should do, but sometimes, it was a struggle. Often, I didn't enjoy it as much as I ought to, considering that fanfiction is essentially made for fun! Now, I get an idea, the time and inclination line up, I sit down and just write and write and write... and I'm loving it! :D

So, I am in fact working on a new Hart of Dixie fic idea. Not ready to share it yet because it's a little different and I'm not sure how it's going to work out yet, but figuring it out is a blast :)

Also, thanks to a an old friend on FF.net resurrecting a fic of hers that has been on hiatus for years now, I've started a Veronica Mars fic, which is pretty crazy given it's an age since I rewatched more than a random episode of the show here and there and haven't written fic for it in longer, but hey, why not? :)

Finally, I have this wacky MCU fic idea that I'm playing around with. I haven't written much for the fandom that's not a one-shot, but this wacky concept just won't leave me alone, so I have to try it out. It's either going to be glorious or disastrous and I love that about it! lol

Sending happy, productive writing vibes to all my fellow fanficcers! :D

Hi there, my name is Ultra and this is my Dreamwidth journal :)

You may know me from Fanfiction.net (as Ultrawoman), AO3 (as Ultra), YouTube (as UltraVids1), Twitter (as [profile] theycallmeultra), or perhaps you just stumbled upon me through a DW community.

My screenname was originally Ultrawoman, when I first joined a couple of Smallville forums back in 2001. I chose it in honour of my favourite episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, because at the time, it was all I could think of! It really stuck and now everybody who knows me online calls me Ultra :)

I used to be on LiveJournal but switched over to Dreamwidth when the rules changed and there was a kind of mass exodus. I used to post a lot of my fic on my journal, but lately, it's more general stuff. Links to fics will appear sometimes, alongside my thoughts on TV series, films, books, and music that I've recently come across or have loved for a while. There will be personal posts too, but those are locked to Access List only.

If you want to subscribe to me, feel free, but if you're hoping I'll grant you access and/or follow back, please do reply to this post, letting me know where we know each other from and/or why you want to be mutuals :)

Below is a list of all the fandoms I'm into, and have been into over the past 20+ years, along with who I ship(ped) in each one.

Current/Most Active fandoms, with ships:

Hart of Dixie - Zoe/Wade; Lemon/Lavon; George/Tansy; Annabeth/Joel
Gilmore Girls - Rory/Jess; Luke/Lorelai
MCU - Bucky/Nat; Steve/Peggy; sometimes Clint/Nat

more under the cut )

Any questions, just ask by replying below or dropping me a PM :)

Haven't done anything like this in forever, so why not? :)

Snagged from [personal profile] undeadrobins

Give me a character and I'll tell you:

1. how I feel about this character
2. all the people I ship romantically and/or sexually with this character
3. favourite gen relationship(s) for this character
4. my unpopular opinion about this character
5. one thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
6. random pet theory about this character that you won't convince me is not true
7. a song or piece of music I associate with this character

Feel free to go with any fandom you know I'm into, and if you're not sure which fandoms those are, try anything I've written for/got a gift for at my AO3 Profile :)
ultra_fic: (Avengers)
When I first got into the MCU via Avengers Assemble (aka The Avengers) I didn't really think much about shipping. As I went back and watched Phase 1, I liked some canon ships (Tony/Pepper, Steve/Peggy) and some others, not so much (didn't like Jane enough to ship Thor/Jane, didn't care about pre-Ruffalo Hulk, tbh) but fanfic got me into a whole bunch of non-canon ships. I liked the idea of Nat/Clint back then, and actually, I really enjoyed Bruce/Darcy! lol

Then Phase 2 came along, and a friend got me into Steve/Nat, plus I read some Loki/Jane and some Darcy/(insert name here) because, good grief, she got paired with just about everyone for a while! lol

Then, somewhere along the line, I discovered Bucky/Nat, and oh my goodness, there's just no going back from that!!!

I always loved Bucky in all his incarnations. I mean, it doesn't hurt that Sebastian Stan is as hot as the sun, but Bucky's just such a complex and wonderful character. I always liked Natasha too, for similar character-depth reasons, actually. Plus they both kick ass, which is fun too ;) It came as a surprise to me that they actually were a couple in the comics, but it does make sense, and I really wish there was the opportunity for something to happen with them in the MCU. I've seen interviews where Sebastian talks about wanting 'WinterWidow' to happen, so that's great :)

So, yeah, after three phases of films and a lot of fanfiction reading (plus some writing) I found my MCU ship. Bucky/Nat, WinterWidow, whatever you want to call it - that's my MCU OTP. And yes, I know, it's kind of ruined at this point because of Endgame, and I don't even know what's happening in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, or what the Black Widow film might throw up, but it's still my MCU OTP and I'm sticking to it ;)
