I like all kinds of musicals, from the old to the ultra-modern. These are 80s musicals that fall somewhere in the middle, both focused on dancing, which I have no skill in at all but love to do!

Doubtless we all know the plots to these movies, but just in case... in Dirty Dancing, young holiday-maker Frances 'Baby' Houseman meets tough dance teacher Johnny Castle and falls in love as he teaches her to dance, whilst in Footloose, rebel Ren McCormick challenges the local preacher over the ban on dancing and popular music in town, at the same time capturing the heart of the preacher's daughter, Ariel.

The love stories are beautiful, the music is wonderful, the dancing makes you want to get up and join in yourself! These are feel good movies with music you'll be singing along to forever! I love the soundtrack albums as much as the movies themselves. These are just classics!

Yay, know both of them, love both of them, I'm pretty sure I have Dirty Dancing on DVD (but I'm too lazy to get up and check), I don't think I own Footloose but that's something I should change and I believe my soundtrack albums of Dirty Dancing are still at my parents' house...since it was before I got a CD player *cringes*. Dirty Dancing was the first (and one of the very few) movies I watched more than once at the cinema.

And I still hate that Jennifer Grey had a nose job that left her almost unrecognizable...random much?

Yes they are. I don't know about all movies, but at least DD is of course one that came out when I was the appropriate age.

I can understand she didn't like her nose, I totally do and she wasn't perfect enough for Hollywood, but it changed her so much. I can't even remember what it was I watched where I went "Wait, THAT'S Jennifer Grey? What happened to her?". It's sad, really.

Love both of these movies. Had a marathon of these two with my dad early last month! Great music in both of these movies. Have you seen the Footloose remake?

I just watched the trailer to know what you're talking about...and was going WHAT? With Dirty Dancing they at least made a different movie, but this looks like it's really "just" a remake. How stupid is that, you don't make a remake of a cult film, you just don't. It's all wrong.

I was 10 years old when I successfully pestered my parents to rent Footloose. Everyone in my class had seen it but me.

After that truck scene, my parents angrily snapped off the TV and declared that we would not ever be watching the movie. Much crying and threatening commenced. They watched it that night, then changed their minds and let us watch it the next day. It became such a family favorite, that they bought us the VCR tape at Christmas (which was a huge deal because tapes were very expensive back then.)

I've seen the movie countless times and love it so much still. I love the soundtrack too and did a gymnastics floor routine to 'Holding Out for a Hero' when I was 11. :)

When I was about 9 I was on a camp & I remember that Dirty Dancing was a movie that only older kids (16+) were allowed to watch. For years I thought it was a very, very scary movie LOL
