I have mixed results when I participate in exchanges. Mostly what I write for others seems to be appreciated, even the treats, and that's great. What's written for me is usually pretty good too. Of course, there are occasions when I spend a long time writing something you think is really cool for someone and they don't even comment, and there are times when I receive something that isn't really what I asked for and it's kind of disappointing. This week, however, has been a triumph twice over! :)

Now, I can't share what I wrote for the [community profile] unsent_letters_exchange or [community profile] maythe4thbewithyou yet, because anon periods, but I can share what I received and oh my goodness is it ever some good stuff!!! :D

For May4th...

Holo from Exegol is an amazing, almost 12,000 word fic, set post-TROS, in which Ben survives and he and Rey need help in escaping from Exegol, so Ben tries to contact Chewie on the Falcon, leading to Finn, Poe, Lando, etc. seeing Rey/Ben via a holo message and realising they're together, plus ForceGhost!Leia and ForceGost!Anakin feature as well, and the whole thing is so epic and awesome! I can hardly believe someone went so all-out on an exchange fic for little ol' me :P

also Give Your Hearts, which is a '5 things' Han/Leia fic about them getting married which was just so cute and fun and extremely in-characters. I loved this one too :)

For Unsent Letters...

In A Minute is an MCU fic, Bucky/Nat, obviously, because what else do I usually request? It must have taken the author such a long time, not just the writing of it (over 6,000 words, y'all!) but all the special formatting so that it genuinely looked like letters, emails, reports, text messages - I'm just so impressed! It's post-Endgame, but it goes back to Bucky & Nat's shared history in the Red Room, as per the comics, and in the 'present day' part, everyone is looking for Bucky, realising he has gone to Vormir to get Nat back. Of course, it has a happy ending ;)

So, yeah, I think I have been extremely lucky with exchange gifts this week. I feel properly spoilt and very happy with all my lovely gifts. Can't wait to find out who wrote them next week so I can squee at those people some more and maybe look into what other things they have written that might interest me :) Next up will be the [community profile] fluffityfluffexchange, which reveals on Sun 15th May, and I've just signed up for [personal profile] fairytaleinspired, so that's something to look forward to next month :)

Hope everyone else is being as lucky with exchanges of late! :)

There's been a lot of writing... and also, signing up for exchanges. I can't seem to stop myself on either count, which I'm actually okay with :)

I have 3 WIPs now, all of which I have started sharing...

Title: Marvel Collegiate University
Fandom: MCU
Pairings: Bucky/Nat; Tony/Pepper; Darcy/Bruce
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: What if all the Avengers were ordinary human beings who just attended college together?

Title: Take Me to the Other Side
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairings: Mac/Dick; Veronica/Logan
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Mac and Dick are about to hit a new phase in their relationship, which is great, except dealing with the future also means dealing with the past, and neither one of them exactly has the simplest or nicest backstory... (Long-time-coming sequel to 'Falling in Love is Hard on the Knees', but you can probably read it just fine without reading/remembering that one)

Title: Lead Me Home
Fandom: Hart of Dixie
Pairing: Zoe/Wade
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: One day, a friendly member of the Bluebell community picked up a visiting New Yorker from the side of the road. You probably think you know who these people are. Y’all are wrong!

I'm signed up for [community profile] unsent_letters_exchange, which I thought about a lot and almost decided against, BUT having taken a look through the requests summary, I think I did the right thing in going for it. I'm actually quite excited about the potential assignments now :)

Also, I signed up for [community profile] maythe4thbewithyou, which I wanted to do last year, but then didn't. This year, I'm giving it a try, even though I haven't written a whole bunch of Star Wars fic before. I just recently revisited the Sequels and Prequels and I know the Originals pretty well, so it should be fine :)

Hope everyone else's writing, both WIPs and challenge/exchange stuff, is going swimmingly! :)

So enjoyed the [profile] seasonofdrabbles exchange Winter round! I actually received 5 gifts, Paying Compliments and home where my love lies waiting (both Pride & Prejudice), Recollecting of Bloom and Yarn (both Little Women), and family keepsake (MCU). All fabulous fics :)

I did a lot of treats this go around... which I usually do with drabble exchanges. I wrote several MCU fics: A Weird Kind of Sense (Bucky/Nat), She (Bucky/Nat), Reason to Live (Bucky/Nat), Finding the Way Back Home (Steve/Nat), and A Little Less Conversation (Bucky&/Sam); a couple of Gilmore Girls fics: Got Milk? (Lorelai & Michel & Sookie) and Blue Eyes Walk Into A Bar (Rory/Jess); plus one for The Big Bang Theory: Going Down (Penny).

So excited to see what I get as a gift for the [community profile] chocolateboxcomm on Monday and to see if my giftee likes their gift too...

I've written 33 fics for the Three Sentence Ficathon so far. I don't know that I'll do anymore, but if you want to see all the fics I've done so far, they're over on AO3.

Oh, and I actually posted Chapter 1 of that wacky MCU fic I talked about in a previous post. If anyone is interested, it's a College/University AU with a main focus on Bucky/Nat but also features (will feature) several of the main Avengers and other characters. You can find it at Fanfiction.net or AO3.

It's so much easier to write now that I'm not on a schedule. I mean, I always got done all the stuff I needed to, and all the stuff I thought I should do, but sometimes, it was a struggle. Often, I didn't enjoy it as much as I ought to, considering that fanfiction is essentially made for fun! Now, I get an idea, the time and inclination line up, I sit down and just write and write and write... and I'm loving it! :D

So, I am in fact working on a new Hart of Dixie fic idea. Not ready to share it yet because it's a little different and I'm not sure how it's going to work out yet, but figuring it out is a blast :)

Also, thanks to a an old friend on FF.net resurrecting a fic of hers that has been on hiatus for years now, I've started a Veronica Mars fic, which is pretty crazy given it's an age since I rewatched more than a random episode of the show here and there and haven't written fic for it in longer, but hey, why not? :)

Finally, I have this wacky MCU fic idea that I'm playing around with. I haven't written much for the fandom that's not a one-shot, but this wacky concept just won't leave me alone, so I have to try it out. It's either going to be glorious or disastrous and I love that about it! lol

Sending happy, productive writing vibes to all my fellow fanficcers! :D

ultra_fic: (Avengers)
When I first got into the MCU via Avengers Assemble (aka The Avengers) I didn't really think much about shipping. As I went back and watched Phase 1, I liked some canon ships (Tony/Pepper, Steve/Peggy) and some others, not so much (didn't like Jane enough to ship Thor/Jane, didn't care about pre-Ruffalo Hulk, tbh) but fanfic got me into a whole bunch of non-canon ships. I liked the idea of Nat/Clint back then, and actually, I really enjoyed Bruce/Darcy! lol

Then Phase 2 came along, and a friend got me into Steve/Nat, plus I read some Loki/Jane and some Darcy/(insert name here) because, good grief, she got paired with just about everyone for a while! lol

Then, somewhere along the line, I discovered Bucky/Nat, and oh my goodness, there's just no going back from that!!!

I always loved Bucky in all his incarnations. I mean, it doesn't hurt that Sebastian Stan is as hot as the sun, but Bucky's just such a complex and wonderful character. I always liked Natasha too, for similar character-depth reasons, actually. Plus they both kick ass, which is fun too ;) It came as a surprise to me that they actually were a couple in the comics, but it does make sense, and I really wish there was the opportunity for something to happen with them in the MCU. I've seen interviews where Sebastian talks about wanting 'WinterWidow' to happen, so that's great :)

So, yeah, after three phases of films and a lot of fanfiction reading (plus some writing) I found my MCU ship. Bucky/Nat, WinterWidow, whatever you want to call it - that's my MCU OTP. And yes, I know, it's kind of ruined at this point because of Endgame, and I don't even know what's happening in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, or what the Black Widow film might throw up, but it's still my MCU OTP and I'm sticking to it ;)

I Want It All
Song by: Queen
Fandom: MCU
Character(s): Loki
Setting: pre-Avengers Assemble

If Jotunheim would forsake him and Asgard cast him out, there were other places he could go, other thrones to claim.

The humans would quake before his majesty. Spear in hand, he would command respect and the whole kingdom of Midgard would kneel.

It was as good a plan as any, and Loki was determined to see it through, come what may. There were no men like him, not on this meagre planet of weak-minded fools.

He would rule and give no quarter to those who defied him. His want for it was unparalleled and his power would be absolute.

So, I finally saw Avengers Infinity War this passed weekend. I didn't post a reaction sooner because, well, I haven't had much time and also, it was a lot to process!

Spoilers start here! )
ultra_fic: (Avengers)
So, I finally saw Thor Ragnarok this weekend. One word - Wow!

Here be spoilers... )

So, that's that. Next new MCU film for me will be Black Panther, I guess, which will be coming out in a few months, I suppose, around the same time Infinity War hits cinemas. It's going to be a real pain in the butt avoiding spoilers for Infinity War, I'm sure on that, but I am going to try my best.

So, as I think I've mentioned before, I'm a little obsessed with fic exchanges lately. I really like getting prompts/requests and having to come up with a story by a deadline, it's just enough pressure without being too much. Besides, most of my stories lately get soooo loooong, it's great to get the chance to write stuff that's more like 1,000 or so (or even less for treats).

Author reveals for [community profile] chocolateboxcomm happened today, so here is a list of all the fics I wrote, in case anybody is interested :)

I went outside the box with a lot of these. I had never written Nat/Bucky for MCU before, and I certainly never thought to write fic for Austen novels until the ideas were laid out before me! Definitely something I would do again though, and everybody seemed pretty pleased with what I wrote for them, so that's cool.

Of course, I also received one main fic, and as a bonus, one treat as well, both of which are fab :)

Wish You Were Here - a cute Brisco County Jr. fic of the Brisco/Dixie variety, and

Dinner and a Show - an adorable Agent Carter fic of the Peggy/Daniel variety.

The next exchange is [community profile] hetswap, for which I have my assignment, plus I've found 9 prompts that look interesting that I may write treats for if I have the time and inclination before 2nd April :)
ultra_fic: (Avengers)
So, I decided to start at the far end of my MCU DVD shelf and go through the whole thing. It's so long since I watched some of the, especially the Phase 1 stuff, and I kinda think it'd be cool to get right up to date in time for Thor Ragnarok coming out in Feb. (For those that don't know, I'm not a cinema goer and I don't download films from the web - I wait for DVD releases).

I found that I still love Iron Man & Iron Man 2 as much as ever, and that Captain America The First Avenger and Thor are still cool too. (I don't have The Incredible Hulk as I never cared for it, and it's not Ruffalo, so I don't feel like I need it anyhow). Avengers Assemble was always my favourite, and yet it seemed to be missing something on this rewatch. I wonder if it's just that it feels as if characters are missing now that the 'verse has expanded so much?

Iron Man 3 - I was convinced I didn't like this the first time around, and yet on this rewatch, I really enjoyed it! Then I started on Agents of SHIELD Season 1, watched up to Episode 7, and then dived into Thor The Dark World. Wow, I'd forgotten how 'blah' the second Thor film is. I have an affection for Season 1 of SHIELD still, but I'm in that strange minority that really enjoyed the format of the first season and gave up watching after the whole HYDRA/Ward is evil/superhero thing started happening, basically, once we were in a post-Captain America Winter Soldier world.

So, yeah, on I shall go through the rest of the films. I have everything in Phase 2, and all of Phase 3 that's on DVD so far, save for Doctor Strange (because seriously? What the hell was that? Sorry, didn't care for it at all!)

I might post again about this when I've rewatched some more, especially once I rewatch Age of Ultron, because I remember not caring much for that the first time either. Time will tell, I guess :)

Top 5 Hits

Hart of Gold, OUAT, Rumpel/Belle, 5287 hits. Modern Day AU. Isabelle Hart is the latest alias of a legendary grifter and thief. Her latest con involves bringing down ruthless business tycoon, Robert Gold, but this particular job was never her idea... -- I think AU Rumbelle was pretty big when I wrote this. I'm not sure if it would be more of less popular if I wrote & posted it now.

Avengers in Babysitting, MCU, various pairings, 2613 hits. Following the Battle of New York, Darcy Lewis is interning at Stark Tower, where all the of Avengers now live. When a mysterious package arrives for Tony, it's Darcy who must deliver it to the latest Avengers meeting in the conference room. Is it a bomb? A gift? A trophy? An AC/DC record? None of the above - it's a baby. Now the Avengers must face their scariest challenge yet - baby-sitting a six month old! Pepper is blaming Tony, Clint is looking to a future with Natasha, Steve and Thor are thinking about their respective past and future relationships, and Darcy is setting her sights on the softer side of Bruce. All this before they even discover that this isn't any ordinary child they're taking care of... -- written for the Marvel Bang last year, I really didn't expect anyone to read it, but they did! lol

Further on Down the Road, Leverage, ELiot/Parker, 2468 hits. Post-Season 3. After Moreau is dealt with, Eliot feels he must leave the team, maybe just for a while or maybe forever. Parker thinks its a bad idea for him to go away at all, and handles it in her own singular way. -- I loved writing this road trip fic and was thrilled when it proved popular.

What Might've Been, Gilmore Girls, Rory/Jess, 2426 hits. Jess is sent to live with his Uncle Luke around the same time that Lorelai and Rory move into their house in Stars Hollow. Getting to know each other from age eleven leads to an evolved relationship for Rory and Jess that was never romantic, but as the best friends reach age sixteen, what might change? -- My first 'full-length' GG fic.

The Runaways, Gilmore Girls, Rory/Jess, 2198 hits. Rory can't face home after sleeping with Dean, fighting with Lorelai, and touring Europe with her grandma. Running away suddenly looks very appealing, and she's headed towards the one person who always seems to understand her, even when Rory doesn't understand herself. Literati. -- My second 'full-length' GG fic.

Top 5 Kudos

Hart of Gold, 138 kudos.

Avengers in Babysitting, 109 kudos.

A Little Understanding, X-Men, Rogue/Logan, 94 kudos. Of all the people at Xavier's school, nobody understands each other quite as well as Logan and Rogue. -- My first X-Men fic ever, I didn't think anyone woudl luck it since most Rogue/Logan fics tend to err towards smut and mine was just cute ;)

What Might've Been, 82 kudos.

Further on Down the Road, 78 kudos.

Top 5 Bookmarks

Hart of Gold, 28 bookmarks.

Further on Down the Road, 17 bookmarks.

Objects in the Rearview, Leverage, Eliot/Parker, 15 bookmarks. AU Mid-to-Late Season 4. Parker isn't sure what to think when she realises her heart just isn't in her relationship with Hardison. She turns to Eliot for advice, and that only seems to make things more complicated! -- My last major E/P fic before I took a break. Nice to know it didn't suck!

What Might've Been, 15 bookmarks.

The Blame Game, Gilmore Girls, Rory/Jess, 14 bookmarks. Starts in 2.19 Teach Me Tonight. When the car crash happens differently, with wholly different consequences, it causes Rory & Jess to make different choices in their relationships and changes how they both move forward. It also alters things for Luke & Lorelai too. Literati. -- This one was fairly short but I guess some folks just liked it.

All in all, it seems the same few fics get all the hits, kudos, and bookmarks, and its never the ones I expect! lol
