[100 Things] My DVD Collection: Annie Get Your Gun & Calamity Jane

I actually only got the DVD of Annie Get Your Gun because I figured I would like it of the back of my love for Calamity Jane. Of all Doris Day movies, it was definitely one of my favourites growing up. I figure its because I like tough women that can also look good in a fancy dress - who doesn't want to be like that? ;)

Anyway, for the most part Annie was as impressive to me as Jane. Both movies had great songs, excellent leading ladies, and the wonderful Howard Keel. What lets Annie down for me is the ending. Apparently what a strong and skilled woman needs to do to get the man of her dreams is be less than she is... Um, NO! I do not like that, at all!

In Calamity Jane, she loses the man she thinks she wants, only to realise the guy she's been fighting with all this time is the one she truly loves. That works for me. Wild Bill Hicock can handle a tough woman just fine, and Frank Butler should have been able to say the same.

So yeah, love both movies for the most part, just the end of one of them that irks me.

I don't think I've actually seen any of these...I think, but I'm not sure. Well, the first one I'm sure, the second one not so much because I used to be a huge Doris Day fan, so I might have seen it and just don't remember.

I think if I had to choose one, based on your review it go with Calamity Jane. I love the "she's after one guy and gets the one she's bickering with" theme. Yep, I' a helpless romantic. Don't care ;). But I also like strong women...

You know, even though there's a lot of your DVDs I don't know, I think this is a lot of fun, because for the ones I know I get to hear a different opinion (and it's about older movies, not the ones you can see in the theaters right now) and for the ones I don't know, I either get inspired to see them at some point or know why not to pick them.

What number are you at with these two?

I love Doris Day's films, mostly her musicals - On Moonlight Bay, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, Young At Heart, Tea for Two, etc. - and Calamity Jane has alwyas been one of my favourites. I am right with you on the helpless romantic thing too ;)

I'm glad you're having fun with all these dvds post, hon. We're way past half way now, um... let me check... yeah, these are numbers 77 & 78 already! lol

Aaw! Well, here's something to cheer you up, I'm not working next week and I'm getting done with all my fic bangs and stuff, so I can sort out the Leverage fic I really wanna write. Yep, new E/P fic over at FF.net potentially next week!!! ;)

Much of the content is joyous, humorous, and musical, with a bit of romance and of course a little heartbreak along the way before the happy ending kicks in. I really need to rewatch Calamity Jane soon... its been too long!
