[100 Things] My DVD Collection: Beauty and the Beast & Beastly

Disney's Beauty and the Beast is my second all time favourite Disney movie (after The Little Mermaid) and whilst Beastly intrigued me, I wasn't so sure I was going to like a modern retelling - I was so wrong.

Whilst Belle learns to love an apparently ferocious but potentially cuddly Beast in the cartoon, Lindy gets to know and ultimately falls for the cursed young man covered in ugly scars and tattoos. Both get their handsome prince in the end, after both they and their 'beasts' have seen through the facade of skin-deep beauty to what lies beneath.

Its the same story in VERY different interepretations, but both work so well. I go back to the cartoon because its pretty and the songs are fun, but the teen movie has raw emotion and the modern twist is very cool and surprisingly real for something of the fantasy realm.

And of course in both versions, everyone lives happily ever after ;)

Side-note: For Beastly, I suggest anyone with the dvd watches the alternate ending - it is far superior to the actual ending, IMO!

Beastly is a way better film than it ought to have been. I didn't think it was amazing, but it wasn't the tripe I'd expected. I preferred BandSlam as a Post HSM Vanessa Hudgens movie (although I strongly contest that film's definition of 'indie' bands)!

I do like Bandslam as well... a lot, actually. I don't know if I like it better than Beastly, just in a different way, maybe.

I love the Beauty & the Beast story in all its forms so I will try to watch Beastly if I can :) I don't know if you're watching Once Upon a Time, but they have incorporated the B&B story into the show & it's really awesome.

I am watching OUAT, but over here we're a long way behind. Episode 6 airs tonight, no sign of B&B yet.
