[100 Things] My DVD Collection: Star Wars and Star Trek

When I started getting into sci-fi, I realised I was missing two of the biggest franchises from my collection. There is sooo much Trek out there, I decided it was easier to start with Star Wars, and I was very glad I did!

The original trilogy, following the journey of Luke Skywalker for three movies, is one of the most awesome sets of movies I have ever seen. Han Solo is so cool, I can hardly explain, Princess Leia kicks ass, and with Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C3PO to make up the crew, there is no bad.

On the other hand (hopefully the one Darth Vader cut off for Luke!) we have the prequel trilogy - I know Anakin becomes Darth Vader, so what is the point? And the characters mostly sucked. I only liked young Obi-Wan, and thats mostly because Ewan McGregor is cool.

As for Star Trek, the newest reboot movie is the only version I've seen. I like it, I do, but it doesn't exactly thrill me the way Star Wars does.

In the great battle between the two - I'm a Jedi, people, not at all a Trekkie. Deal with it ;)

I love the original 3 Star Wars films, but I haven't got them on DVD, because when I say the originals, I mean the originals. If Lucas ever releases a version with the original cinema release on, then maybe, but I don't want it all dicked around with after the fact. The entire scripts were rewritten before shooting because the cast thought they were awful - perhaps he should've learned his lesson!

Star Trek, though... I got the complete Original Series boxsets pre-owned cheap from Blockbusters when I worked there (employee discount, ge! in!). The first series is a bit slow, but 2 and 3 are really good fun. I'd suggest checking them out!


My real baby is Farscape though. If you've not seen it, definitely check it out.

The DVDs I have of Star Wars have both the Theatrical version and the remastered/updated/crap version on each - I NEVER watch the remastered/updated/crap versions, ALWAYS the originals :)

A part of me thinks I should get into Star Trek, but another part thinks I really shouldn't get into anymore shows right now that require me to buy many boxsets. I already have 100+ lol

I have to agree with you about the prequels in Star wars, the only thing that I liked too was the young Obi-Wan stuff. The Star Trek reboot is very good As for the other Star Trek movies the only couple of good ones would have to be Star Trek 3 and 4. I'm both a Trekkie and a Jedi. Some people argue you that you can be only one or the other. I'm in the camp that says you can be both.
