Suddenly, it occurred to her, it didn’t have to be over.

After all, they had a time machine; the past could be rewritten, the future too.

It would have been unfair to everyone if she settled, so Lucy chose another path.

Sitting down to rewrite her journal, she picked her words carefully, then practised more well-chosen words in the mirror, ready for the next day’s big trip.

In São Paulo, she enacted her plan; hoping, wishing, praying for a better future.

And after, when she stepped off the Lifeboat, Garcia was standing there, and it had all been worth it.

Then a moment, where she looks at him, and though all his attention is on his book, one hand shifts over to take hold of hers.

Their fingers intertwine. A perfect fit.

His hand and hers. Her heart and his.

Rory smiles and doesn’t wonder anymore.
