[100 Things] My DVD Collection: Chuck Season 1 & Chuck Season 3

 

The biggest reason for me to start watching Chuck was Adam Baldwin. He was so good in Firefly and so I followed him into this show, not really sure whether I would like it or not. It helped that it was a geeky show, 'cause hey, I have no problem admitting I am a geek or a nerd or whatever. I was not disappointed as I began to watch.

For those that don't know, Chuck is about a nerd named Chuck Bartowski (the adorkable Zach Levi) who one day receives an email from an old college buddy and on opening it has the entire US government database of secrets (called the Intersect) downloaded into his brain. Enter CIA agent Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) and NSA agent Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin) to babysit this IT nerd and keep him from getting captured or killed for the secrets his mind holds.

Season 1 was a riot and I loved every minute, as Chuck adjusted to his new skills and knowledge, fell for Sarah, and coped with being part of the spy world. It was full of action and comedy and awesome characters, I couldn't wait for Season 2 and still wasn't disappointed.

Then came Season 3. Oh, where do I start. I still liked it, I did, but somehow I just didn't care in the same way. Chuck and Sarah got into a proper realtionship, which kinda killed the whole UST thing that worked for so long. They started to push Casey out (even more so by Season 4) and by the end of the Season pretty much everyone knew about the Intersect meaning Chuck wasn't so much a 'secret' agent anymore.

I really didn't like Brandon Routh's character - yes, I know, I wasn't supposed to, but it almost made me not want to watch! - and when Chuck's Dad (the ever wonderful Scott Bakula) was killed, I was shocked and very unhappy.

With Chuck, the oldies were the goodies, and the later stuff doesn't quite measure up (though the back end of Season 4 was better and I haven't started on Season 5 yet...)
