Though Quantum Leap aired originally in the 90s, it was only a couple of years ago that I first saw it. Scott Bakula was so cool on Chuck, I just had to see him in his own show - he DID NOT disappoint me, at all!
Season 1 introduced the idea that Dr Sam Beckett could leap through time into the body and life of all kinds of other people - male or female, black or white, young or old - but always within the span of his own lifetime. Just as soon as he completes his task, putting right something that once went wrong, he leaps into the next life. Meanwhile, Sam's friend Al appears to him as a hologram and helps him through the tough moments - the guy is hilarious, simple as that!
I loved this show from the start, though Season 1 was mostly introduction and Season 2 took a while to get going. Season 3 has most of my favourite leaps, starting with Sam leaping into his own younger self, continuing through Sam as a beauty pageant contestant, a pregnant teen, and a rock star, and ending in the mental hospital where Sam hasn't a clue which of the people he leapt into is real anymore!
Right through Seasons 1 to 4, there was hardly an episode that didn't impress me in some way or other... but then came Season 5. I feel like maybe the writers hooked all the awkward, not-so-good ideas out of the waste paper bin and used them anyway - there was a lot of really weird episodes that didn't thrill me at all.
The ending, well, I'm still not sure it was the right way to go. Very confusing up until the last moments, which were sweet and all but, no, I think it could've been better myself. Still, I love the show, all of it, and I'm very glad I decided to watch eventually.
