Wishing you all a (belated) happy new year. I've been lurking around a little bit online the last few days, but not really back to 'normal service' until today. Hope everybody had a fab Christmas (if you celebrate it - or a fab whatever you have been celebrating!) and that you're all enjoying an excellent new year already :)

There has been much enjoying of gifts and food and fun for me and mine in the last week or so. I feel very relaxed and happy, and almost ready and prepared to get back to work next week (but only almost! lol)

The weather here is cold as anything (hovering around 0C/32F - a little above in the days, a little below at nights) and we're under warnings for snow/ice. Thank goodness we have nowhere to go and plenty of blankets to hide under!

This is me disappearing from the internet world for a little bit for RL festivities and such.

Catch you on the flipside :)

Finally had time for some baking last week, and so, there were cupcakes. Vanilla cakes with chocolate and buttercream on top.

And yes, they all have slightly different styles of topping - I make them to spec for myself and my family members ;)

It's the evening of 22nd December... and I can hardly believe that's possible! Still, it is what it is, Christmas is practically here, and as crappy as the situation in the world is right now, there is always hope, especially at this time of year. Thankfully, I have my family here with me, and we have our gifts and our food for the festive celebrations all stowed away, so we can stay indoors, stay safe, and make the best of it.

Thought I'd share something nice with you all, something happy, so under the cut is a pic of a T-shirt with a Christmas tree design on it that I made at the start of the month (and have worn several times since and will no doubt wear again on Christmas Day) plus links to my latest festive fics - enjoy! :)

I finally watched Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker this weekend. It actually hadn't occurred to me that it was sort of the perfect time, given that today is May 4th (May the Fourth Be With You, btw!) it just worked out that way. I admit I was a little apprehensive because I know a lot of people had a lot of complaints about the film - I didn't know specifics because I was doing serious spoiler avoidance, but I got the distinct feeling people were pissed for whatever reasons. So, anyway, here are my thoughts...

cut because I rambled a bit/a lot! )

In conclusion, I liked the film. I'm not doing backflips because it's awesome, but then, I haven't really felt that way about any of the sequels. The original trilogy will always be the 'real' Star Wars for me, while the prequels are just (mostly painful but relevant) backstory, and the sequels are... well, they're fun and, for me, not as bad as some people say. I'll most likely watch it again sometime.

Anybody else got any thoughts they want to share about this film, or anything else Star Wars related, given that it's Star Wars Day? :)

I realised the other day that when I listen to music, I don't just have favourite artists, favourite albums, or even favourite songs, I have very specific favourite lyrics, certain lines that I feel strongly about, because they really say something or they just evoke an image in my head. There's quite a lot of them when I think about it, so I did think about it, and here's the list I came up with... so far.

"There's a shopping cart in the ravine, the foam on the creek looks like pop and ice-cream."

"I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering-ram on a silver-black phantom bike."

"Give me a second, I need to get my story straight, my friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State."

"Life's like a box of matches, sometimes the whole thing catches, and all you can do is watch it burn."

"We were shining like Aurora Borealis."

"I don't wanna touch you too much, baby, 'cause making love to you might drive me crazy."

"Life's a journey, not a destination, and I just can't tell just what tomorrow brings."

To those that celebrate, I wish you a joyful, peaceful, wonderful Easter :)

To those that don't, may you have a wonderful weekend anyway :)

I feel like I've been watching so many episodes of things and just boxsets of late, it was time for films this weekend! I watched three in the end, one I'd never seen before and two that I had...

Jane Eyre - I never have read the book or seen any film or mini-series version of this, but I always meant to get around to it. I ended up watching the film starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender, and though the acting was great, the film was not! It felt long and kind of boring in places, and my goodness, sad and depressing! I just don't think I'm a Bronte sort of person, as I never got anywhere trying to watch a mini-series of Wuthering Heights years ago either. I think I'll stick with Austen.

Saving Mr Banks - Still can't get through the ending without tears! Beautiful film though, so moving and very well done. Funny in places, painful in others. The life of PL Travers and her working relationship with Walt Disney is something to behold. I'll probably watch it several more times yet, but I doubt I'll ever not need tissues for the ending! lol

The Decoy Bride - Ah, sweet comedy. Well, I needed it after the other two :P It's so much shorter than it seems when you're watching it and there's something bizarre about David Tennant, who is natively Scottish, being the one guy doing an English accent in a film set in Scotland, but I do love it so. It's just such a weirdly sweet film :)

So, Clayne Crawford has been fired from Lethal Weapon... but they hope to get a Season 3 and recast the role of Riggs. I do not understand how that will ever work and I definitely don't want to watch if they try to make it happen.

Supposedly, there were good reasons for the firing - some very bad behaviour and what not. Even if that's true (I have trouble believing it, given his big anti-bullying stance, the interviews I've seen in the past, and all the positive things his cast-mates, friends, and fans who've met him say about him) it still makes no sense to me to recast a lead role in a show and expect everyone to watch like nothing's changed.

Ugh, why must by fave shows always get cancelled or messed up or whatever.

Yeah, I know, there are way more important things in the world than TV, but still, grr! :P
ultra_fic: (Christian Kane)
The upside to waiting for a season of TV to come out on DVD before watching rather than watching via TV or the internet week by week (apart from being able to binge-watch, of course) is that you usually know if this is your finale season or not. By the time The Librarians S4 boxset arrived at my house (on my birthday, no less) I knew this was the end, or at least that it probably was (I hear Dean Devlin's doing all he can to get another network, but you never know).

This was the end of a show I had loved for three seasons and that made me nervous. Shows do get cancelled whilst they're still great but more often they get cancelled when they've gone downhill - please, no!

I'm still working my way through the MCU collection, but that doesn't mean I'm not also watching other things too, and I've recently been trying to get around to watching all those films that 'everyone' has seen and I haven't. So, yesterday, I watched Die Hard. Yep, that's right, a 1988 classic and here I am in 2018 seeing it for the first time. To be honest, that kind of action thing is not really my style. I've seen the Lethal Weapon films, and they were okay, but I like the TV series a lot better. I'm more for character development, less for the violence and cursing, I guess, but I was just curious about Die Hard.

Honestly? It was fine. I didn't hate it. I head the F-bomb more times than I ever needed to in quick succession, but I guess if you were in that guy's predicament, you'd swear a lot, am I right? Um, it was all kinda nasty with the shootings and the blood and all, but at least now I understand the jokes, parodies, etc. that I've seen in other films and TV series over the years. I have to say, I wouldn't watch it again.

So, now I've done the Indiana Jones trilogy + the newer addition, The Magnificent Seven, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Die Hard, The Chronicles of Narnia films, and more. I think I might be reaching a point where I've seen all those classics (and others besides) that I'm supposed to see... or at least the ones I have any interest in at all!

If you have any thoughts on films you think everyone should watch, let me know. I may have seen them, I may have no wish to see them, but recs are always welcome for consideration :)

So, I decided to start at the far end of my MCU DVD shelf and go through the whole thing. It's so long since I watched some of the, especially the Phase 1 stuff, and I kinda think it'd be cool to get right up to date in time for Thor Ragnarok coming out in Feb. (For those that don't know, I'm not a cinema goer and I don't download films from the web - I wait for DVD releases).

I found that I still love Iron Man & Iron Man 2 as much as ever, and that Captain America The First Avenger and Thor are still cool too. (I don't have The Incredible Hulk as I never cared for it, and it's not Ruffalo, so I don't feel like I need it anyhow). Avengers Assemble was always my favourite, and yet it seemed to be missing something on this rewatch. I wonder if it's just that it feels as if characters are missing now that the 'verse has expanded so much?

Iron Man 3 - I was convinced I didn't like this the first time around, and yet on this rewatch, I really enjoyed it! Then I started on Agents of SHIELD Season 1, watched up to Episode 7, and then dived into Thor The Dark World. Wow, I'd forgotten how 'blah' the second Thor film is. I have an affection for Season 1 of SHIELD still, but I'm in that strange minority that really enjoyed the format of the first season and gave up watching after the whole HYDRA/Ward is evil/superhero thing started happening, basically, once we were in a post-Captain America Winter Soldier world.

So, yeah, on I shall go through the rest of the films. I have everything in Phase 2, and all of Phase 3 that's on DVD so far, save for Doctor Strange (because seriously? What the hell was that? Sorry, didn't care for it at all!)

I might post again about this when I've rewatched some more, especially once I rewatch Age of Ultron, because I remember not caring much for that the first time either. Time will tell, I guess :)

First off, I want to wish all my DW peops a very Happy New Year. May 2018 bring you only good things, my friends! :)

Well, I'm back in the real world now with work and all after a wonderfully long Christmas/New Year break. Doesn't time fly? How it is 2018 already, I'll never know. I did take a break from some of my fic writing in December, which has actually done me a world of good, because my head is now full of ideas! The small problem with that is that they're all new ideas, in different fandoms, and now I have to find the time to pick up my WIP Gilmore Girls fics AND write the new ideas too. Guys, I think I'm heading back to the Leverage fandom!

Leverage/Librarians is such an obvious crossover, and there's an idea in my head for a fic that I think could be cool. Plus, there's Lethal Weapon to consider. Also very crossoverable with Leverage AND I get to start watching Season 2 at the end of next week, so that's bound to bring on ideas too. I'm gonna be a very busy fic writer, that much I know, but hey, what's new, right?

I do fully intend to be here posting too. I want to be more social, even if it is online social rather than RL social, because I'm totally okay with that. I will try to keep updating here on DW about life stuff as well as what I'm writing, what I'm watching, what I'm reading, etc. (Anything non-personal will be public, and anything particularly personal will be locked to the Access List).

Now, time for work! :)
